Mandriva Linux 2007 Adds Gaming to Its Mix

TransGaming, a developer of software portability products for the electronic entertainment industry, announced Thursday that the company’s Cedega portability engine will be incorporated into Mandriva Linux 2007.

The integration of Cedega within the Mandriva Linux 2007 installer will allow users of the Linux distro to play video games — such as Empire Interactive’s “FlatOut,” which is also part of the Mandriva Linux 2007 offering — right out of the box.

In addition to the Cedega gaming engine, Mandriva Linux 2007 will also include a host of other new features, among them improved overall usability, 3D desktop, Skype, LinDVD and a complete office suite.

The Cedega gaming component makes Mandriva Linux more complete and better equipped to give Linux users the essentials they have come to expect of a desktop computer, said Klara Mika, independent software vendor business development manager at Mandriva, and those essentials include the ability to play the most advanced Windows games.
